Hotel San Felipe has a beach side restaurant with a growing reputation for excellent food. If you feel you must eat out, Melaque has many good restaurants ranging from local specialties, to national and international dishes. You can dress up for a fancy night out, or enjoy a quick snack at a street side stall. Local markets provide fresh fruit and vegetables for nibbling on the road.
Melaque is well equipped with bars for enjoying the typical Mexican beers or tequilas. There are bars specializing in live music, as well as discos for late night dancing. Pool halls are well frequented, and open all day, as well as the evening. Adult clubs open from the afternoon until the following morning.
For a traditional Mexican evening, join the rest of the town at the town square, and on Sunday night continue on to the town dance.
Melaque offers a wide range of shopping experiences from the town market to the flea market, from beach vendors to artisan's studios. You cannot walk past more than a few houses without encountering a shop selling anything from mangoes to washing machines.
Most shops are open from 7:00AM to 2:00PM and 4:00PM to 9:00PM.
There is one major bank in Melaque, and an independent Casa de Cambio (money exchange). There is an ATM machine with 24 hour access that accepts credit cards (if you know your PIN number) and major bank cards.
Melaque is becoming very involved in turtle protection and release efforts. If you visit in spring, you may be able to participate in our local release program.
